Ender's Game Anticipation Guide

Lying is justifiable if it's for the greater good.

I rated this a 2 because I can't really agree on this subject, lying always leaves someone hurt and if it's for the greater good and you get caught, then the person or persons don't trust you anymore than they already did. Although sometimes lying is for the greater good like to protect somebody or save someones life, then I would understand.

Sometimes violence is the only way to solve a problem.

I rated this a 3 because I kind of agree on this, if it's about a stupid subject, like fighting over a toy or something, then the best way to go about it is to talk, but if there is a terrorist who's threatening to blow up something, then maybe violence is the way to get the answer. That isn't true all the time though, usually talking is the way to go.

It's okay to kill someone in self-defense.

Only if they are attacking to kill you. If they are shooting and attacking you, then I would think, I have to kill this guy, but if you think you will survive, like if someone punches you, then I, or someone else, wouldn't kill them. So I kind of, not really agree, so I rated it a 2.

Words are stronger than fists.

Sometimes, not all the time. Words can definitely harm and hurt someones feelings, but they can't kill you. Punches can kill you if the person is being punched enough, but if you shout hate at someone, it's not going to kill them, it's just going to make them feel bad and lower their self esteem.

Bullies hurt others because they have low self esteem. 

Once again, not all the time, maybe they hurt others because they are having family problems, or home life is tough, but it still isn't right to hurt others regardless. They might hurt others because they have low self esteem, but I don't see how they would channel something that makes them sad, into anger to other people, and then they hurt people, but I still don't see how.

Only the best and brightest students should receive the best education to become a nation's leaders.

I strongly disagree on this passage, not only because the brightest students get better education, but even slow kids could get a great education and go on to become a nations leader with the right education. They still have a chance, and because they are slow doesn't mean anything, it just means they are different, not that they don't have a chance at the best education. The brightest students don't always want to become a nation's leader, maybe they want to become a scientist, or whatever they want. They shouldn't be forced to do something they don't want to do.

Revenge is never justified.

Well it depends on how you define revenge. If someone punches you and your revenge is to kill them, that is kind of too far, but if revenge is, like, you hitting an ice cream out of their hands, then your revenge is justified, or if you have a peace treaty or something along those lines.

Crying is evidence of weakness.

No, it is a sign of you being yourself or being human. Crying is an emotion, not a weakness. People who cry are just showing how they are human. Even if it would be out of fear. It still is an emotion.

Any action is acceptable in war.

I think only a complete pyromaniac would think this. I mean, there is such thing as being to much on the offensive side. If you put others that you know or they are on your team in danger, then that is an unacceptable action that I would think is frowned upon during a war or fight. 

Teenagers need discipline and rules because they can't control themselves.

I disagree with this because what if the teenager can control themselves? Then what? Do you still discipline them and reprimand them? I would understand this if the teenager has certain issues or anger management. Then I would understand that you would want certain rules and disciplinary actions toward the teenager, but not just to make up rules and boss them around. 

Only though personal sacrifice can someone create positive change.

You can create positive change from doing positive things, not from personal sacrifice. Maybe you could create positive change through personal sacrifice but I'm just saying not all the time. 

Generating compassion for your enemies is the only way to create peace.

 Nope, you can create peace with your enemies by not attacking them and trying to see things through with them. You could do something that can benefit both of you, not just one. I could see how creating compassion for your enemies is ONE way to create peace with your enemies but it's not the only way to.

On July 1, 1862, the Pacific Railroad Act was signed by Abraham Lincoln to deliver mail by train, but sometimes the trains would break down, they were slow, and if they went too fast on a curve, they would crash. Then in 1848, gold was discovered in California. By 1850 it had become a free state and had 380,000 people living in it and that number was still growing. The demand for faster transportation was even larger as the Civil War was beginning. As the Pony Express was becoming slower, people started getting new ideas, and that’s where it led them to the idea of the telegraph.

The first person to technically make the first telegraph was Professor Joseph Henry. He created the telegraph and set the telegraph lines from his home to his laboratory, so he could work at home and send his results to his work. He also helped the first secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and became a member of the National Institute for the Promotion of Science. He was born on December 17, 1797 and died on May 13, 1878. This was one of the many people to revolutionize America with the telegraph, but we haven’t gotten to the main person yet.

The main person who contributed to revolutionizing America was Samuel B. Morse. Samuel B. Morse had the idea of the telegraph in 1832 and created the Morse code on a boat trip back to America. He was also a professional artist from the years 1829 -1832 creating portraits of people, while he was in France doing what artists do, he came across Semaphore stations that would send signals far and wide that would be sent to other stations for important news, such as a wind storm, but Morse contradicted the idea for if it is too dark out, the news wouldn't spread. There he came up with the idea of the telegraph. When he made the telegraph the first message he sent was to the president and the message was, “ What hath god wrought” (Book of Numbers 23:23). After his telegraph was selling, about 60 people had claimed of building the first telegraph, but Samuel was the first to get political backing on his. He was born in Charleston, Massachusetts April 27. 

The Pony Express revolutionized America before the telegraph came into thought. The Pony Express was a mail delivery service that distributed mail by means of horseback, hence the Pony in Pony Express. The Pony Express could deliver mail about 10 days faster than the train, because the train took different routes and could go only by rail, it took longer. Some of the trains could break down, causing even more frustration when someone wants to get mail somewhere fast. It was where the train was weak, the Pony Express was strong. The telegraph ultimately destroyed the meaning of the Pony Express and was discontinued 2 days after the release of the telegraph. 

The telegraph was a very great piece of machinery, it was what revolutionized America the most. The telegraph would write 30 characters a minute and was the original instant message machine. On May 1845, the  Magnetic Telegraph Company ordered a form to build lines between New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, and Mississippi, but the first transactional telegraph lines were put up between Baltimore and Washington as a test for the telegraph. The first message was sent to the president, and the message was “What hath god wrought?” (Book of numbers 23:23) The first poles were put up on July 4, 1861, and each worker contributed at least 10 to 12 miles up cables during the time they were working. The telegraph lines were introduced to Copenhagen in 1850 and the United Kingdom in 1851. When the workers were working, president Lincoln said “I think it is a wild scheme. It will be next to impossible to get your poles and materials distributed on the plains, and as fast as you complete the ling, the Indians will cut it down.” Which was a very true quote because the Indians did cut down a lot of telegraph poles.

Before the Pony Express was the train, and before the telegraph was the Pony express, we evolved from livestock to technology. We must give Samuel Morse and Joseph Henry thanks for contributing their skills to create machines that would revolutionize America and make them want to build more things that would help us in the years to come. Later, we made the car, the cell phone, the typewriter, and the airplane. All things to help us in different ways, whether it is to travel, to talk to someone, or to troll someone, they have been there to do just that. I believe that will make things more complicated and technological in the many years, and all we have to do is wait.

I kinda agree with this. I read a lot, but I try not to speak too much. I wouldn't say I'm one to write a lot, like, I don't write just to write, I usually write when doing work or something at home. I often when bored, start drawing so maybe that has something to do with being Linguistic, maybe.

Logical-mathematical intelligence is often what we refer to when we call someone -- such as a mathematician or an engineer -- smart. You possess the ability to understand complex problems, both logical and mathematical. This intelligence asks questions, finds solutions, and reflects on the problem-solving process.

I think this describes be somewhat. I try to think of things logically before I go on to do them. So maybe that's why I got a 69% on this. Other than that I can do problems with logic and mathmatical skills but most of the time I think of doing them logical.

Visual-spatial intelligence allows you to see and modify things in your mind. With an understanding of the visual world and its relation to physical items, you are good at solving spatial problems, designing, and doing crafts. Interior designers have remarkable spatial abilities, as do painters.

I could kind of see how this is like me. Whenever I doing problems like how many sides are on a square, I would imagine a cube and having it split up into different squares. So I could understand it. I'm not sure what spatial problems are, but I could be good at designing and doing crafts. I usually do crafts with my mom and family. I'm not so much of a painter as I am a pencil sketch/drawer.

I got scared, and that’s where things went awry, I swung involuntarily and then let go and began falling. Upside down. I saw the sky, and my cousin with his curly mess of hair and a surprised look of concern and fright as I hit the ground,  then everything went black.

It was the summer of 2009, I was 10. I was visiting my father on the east coast and I was messing around with my cousins. Him, a couple of friends, and I were all dunking basketballs into a basketball hoop off of a 4 foot high ramp. The basketball hoop was a Spalding portable hoop that was all black and had a fiberglass backboard with the Nike and the NBA symbol on it. The ramp was old and flaking its baby barf green paint, it looked like a death trap waiting to happen. The other ramp across from this one already had a hole in it. Anyways, we all were dunking with having the hoop at an easy 8 feet, the limit any of us could go. I had to just be the one who pushed it.

“Move it up to 10 feet.” I said with great confidence as I thought this was going to be easy.

“You sure? That’s kinda high, I don’t think your going to make it.” One of my cousins said uncertainty.

“I’ll make it, just do it.”

He moved the hoop up to 10 feet, and suddenly I felt small. Like a lion compared to a mouse, but I would conquer this lion. I tried to not look scared or nervous but I knew they could see it in my face. I began running to jump off the ramp and when I realized I don’t have to do this, but I jumped anyway and I went up grabbed but found what I grabbed wasn’t the rim, it was the net.

Luckily I didn’t feel myself land or remember the excruciating pain, I don’t remember laying on the ground as my cousin rushed to get my dad, I don’t remember moaning or throwing up in the car on the way to the hospital, all I felt was darkness. What felt like darkness was actually two days, and during those two days I felt like I was sleeping, but without a dream, I was just waiting to be woken up. I went into a coma with a concussion AND a fractured skull. I woke up in a bed in a hospital and I became really confused on where I was and why I was there. The sterile smell was what surprised me the most, it was clean, too clean, when I was unconscious, it was the dirty, welcoming smell of plants and the outdoors, now, it smelled like nothingness.

When I woke up I heard cries of joy and was even more confused. Everything was white, the walls the machines, even the patients, I didn’t remember where I was or who these people around me were, but I was rushed to take an MRI, which is a body X-Ray device, and then I was on my way home. Funny thing was I didn’t even remember leaving. I just went to sleep and woke up in my grandmothers house. I thought it was all a dream, like most people would if they were me.

A couple of weeks later I go to get myself checked out to see if I could do anything like sports still and the doctor said absolutely, positively, no football, for the fear of my reopening my fracture. That’s when I got really scared.

“What about soccer?” I asked with fear in my voice.

“Of course, but your going to have to wait a little bit.” He said with not a trace of doubt.

“Awesome.”

I flew back to California and couldn’t wait to be with my family again. I get there and still can’t play any sports, that was kind of a let down, but hey I’m still alive aren’t I? After a while of just waiting to do things I still was let down of not playing any sports at all. I get a call from the doctors office to go there and get CT scan to see how my skull is doing with the recovery of not doing anything. It was boring for me but good for my skull.

I went and got the CT scan and I was doing a lot better than from where I started. The doctor said I was making a fast recovery and that anytime soon I could be playing sports, but no football. I was going back to school by then and was doing well, I remembered everything I learned from the previous year and my life was going to be back to normal from there on out and to think that all within a year I fractured my skull, was really close to becoming disabled, and then recovered. Sometimes I think to myself, I was very lucky to have survived.

I think what they are trying to touch up on the Karma effect. What goes around comes around. Like when santiago started working in the crystal shop and started cleaning glasses and crystals. He was hoping that since he was doing a good deed, good things would happen to him.
I think what happened at the port when Santiago got r robbed ,that was an act of karma also. He sold his sheep, and even though it was to fulfill his personal legend, it still happened. When the king said, “When you want something, the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.” (Pg. 22) The universe definitely conspired against him and he got robbed. It may be that all things are one, but it seems that the universe and karma are on different terms or have different thoughts on some things and working together.
Also, some bad karma could be like hypocrisy, just without you even realizing it or doing it on accident. Like if you were to say to someone, don’t break your arm on those monkey bars, and then you turn around, trip, and end up breaking your arm, BAM, karma just gotcha.

I Would think roles of luck and coincidence play in universal language is the same way as it plays in Santiago’s life. Santiago’s has begun as a shepherd, and on his way to a city he met the king, luck and coincidence. The king helped Santiago find out his personal legend, it was the thing about his dream. Then the king showed him the way to his personal legend. On the caravan to the place where his treasure was, he met an Englishman who told him about the book and the alchemist. When they arrive at the oasis he meets Fatima and falls in love, luck and coincidence. When he’s out in the desert and sees the hawks, he has a vision, luck and coincidence. Luck and coincidence play a very big role in Santiago’s life, and even, some in mine.
When I was 8, I had just moved to California. I, of course after playing soccer in Maryland, began playing soccer in Humboldt. I was on a team called the green Hornets, considering our color was green.
Now Garrett Adamo had just moved to Humboldt from Alabama and decided to play soccer, he was put on a team called the green Hornets.

1. Our team was the best team in the league, we won every game. Me and Garrett had began to talk and became good friends. I didn’t know it, but my mom had started talking to his mom, sue, and they had become friends before me and Garrett did. Now, five years later, Garrett and me are best friends, we haven’t fought once. I think him and myself are going to be friends for a long time, I would call that luck and coincidence, we both moved, went on the same team, and became best friends.

My drops of oil, I would think is my family. I could be off, later in life, doing something somewhere else, and I would never forget my family, like the wise man had said in the Alchemist, “Enjoy the marvels of the world, but never forget your drops of oil”. My family is my oil in the spoon while I’m enjoying my life around the world and back to where I live, so I don’t forget my drops of oil. They are my roots and I could never grow tall and strong without the comfort and safety I recieve from them.
I could never spill my drops of oil without something to catch them and put them back on my spoon, so I couldn’t ever lose or spill or forget my drops of oil on my spoon. My spoon contains my memory, my oil contains my family, with both of them in or on each other, it’s impossible for me to ever spill it.

If I spilt my oil, I would be ashamed for forgetting such important dates and memories that they have brought me or are bringing and some that are to come in my future and in theirs. I will do my best to never ever forget my drops of oil in my spoon and do my best to remind them to keep an eye on theirs so we don’t ever forget each other, I hope that in the years to come it will stay like this and until the end of time so that way it is best for everyone that may or may not be in my family, but in others as well.

This book is a very well made book for making others and myself realize things we have not before. The deeper messages are very well written and it takes some digging to uncover them but it’s all worth it in the end.

This weeks assignments

I did the daily news quiz and got 4 out of 6 right, I also did the crossword puzzle for Thanksgiving and it was pretty fun, although it was confusing at some points because the person who made it used different meanings for words that I didn't even know existed. Like shy=coy, confused states=mixups, well not that one but it was confusing.

He's spent almost three decades lining his pockets, and his main achievement is that he's made this country's poor feel worthless and powerless. The most pro-Zapanta is the one that at the top says Star Extra and I think this because it says "Request for details are firmly declined 'We are at a sensitive stage. We are talking to people who have to stay anonymous. All we can say is that we are confident that a breakthrough is imminent.' "

Well I would think that he would because it's is dark and there are people all around and any of them could be a police and there are candles everywhere and I think that it is not fair that they had separated the cemetery between rich and poor and that the poor peoples graves are stack on top of each other in boxes, it just isn't right.

TRASH questions

1. The conditions in the prison: it is very hot according to Olivia and in the prison there are not cells, there are cages like an animal would be in. Stacked three high with a ladder on the side of it. There were stairs to the lower levels that Olivia thought would be more cages with more people. Gardo said that kids would do anything for money, food, and other things. They would fight, steal, and even kill for money or food or clothing.
2. They went into the prison and waited in the waiting room until a man that seemed very nice came and talked saying that to get in it would be about 10,000 pesos to get into the prison, or where they wanted to go, the hospital. The man came back with a piece of paper that Olivia had to sign and then gave them the money to get in and they walked through the prison to the hospital and talked to Olondiz, Who was very sick.
3. Raphael had learned that Rat had been saving up to buy a boat to go back where he lived originally. It was on an island but he wouldn't go onto the island he would stay on the boat and fish all day so he had and infinite amount of food. Rat owns about 20,000 pesos and a boat costs 50,000.

The gardener had told Raphael and Rat the way Jose Angelico had taken the 6 million dollars, he did it with a broken refrigerator, he put the 6 million dollars in it and when they were moving out he begged if he could have the fridge and then payed 2000 to the V.P. for it and got inside the truck and when they stopped he hopped out with the 6 million dollars.
5. Buy a larger house and and keep the leftover money to keep it and get a job as a Doctor or some other high paying job to support keeping the house and live like that.

Writers Block

    In the movie Stranger than Fiction there is an author that is having writers block trying to find a way to kill her main character Harold Crick played by Will Farrell. Writers block is when an author is writing a book or poem, and they stop, and can’t think of what to write. It can stop them for months even years from finishing the book. In this essay I will be showing ways of how to cure writers block. Others have made books or movies or even songs about writers block.

There are different kinds of writers block, there’s pressure, or serious block from life or career of the writer. They may also relate to illness, depression, or the end of a relationship of the writer. Some types of pressure they might experience is the big success of a book and the pressure to do well. They feel that it’s there duty to make another great book for the world and they can’t think of what to write. They may also run out of inspiration and feeling for the book then stop, and start writing random stuff that has nothing to do with the book or poem that they are writing. They may also do this until an idea comes up into their mind.

    Some other things a writer might do during writers block is relax and try to think of an idea about the book or character that might affect the meaning or the book or main idea of it. If the writer comes up with an idea that is the base of the book and they have writers block, then come up with an idea that is entirely different than the base idea, it may ruin the book, well for the reader. For the reader it may not make sense and confuse him/ her to come completely off subject and talk about something going on in the characters life.
    They may stop during writers block and do something completely different such as driving to a friends house and talk about the book or to a local market or store to clear their mind and wait. They might do other physical activities such as running, going to the local gym and work out, swim, anything that can be used to give them an idea. They can also sleep in hope of having a dream that could help them with a book. They also might seek help from a phsyscologist to help them think of why they are having writers block and how they may stop it.
    In the movie Stranger Than Fiction what the author did was imagine different scenarios in which could kill her main character Harold Crick. Other authors might do the same things except they might imagine problems and what would happen for the character and what would the outcome be. There are two types of ways a book may end, a tragedy in which the character dies, like Shakespeare had written about Romeo and Juliet in which they both died in the end, or a comedy in which the main character gets married to the other character he or she had an eye on, or something good happens and he lives happy and death-free.
    Writers and artists like Alan Wake had experienced writers block that nearly ended his marriage and stopped the book for two years. The rapper Eminem experienced writers block while writing the lyrics to “Talking to Myself” which he mentions in the song. In Stephan Kings “Secret Window, Secret Garden” the main character is going through divorce as a result of writers block. Musician Gwen Stafani had experienced writers block, which then turned into her first single named “What are you Waiting for?”
    As you can see their are many ways other people may cure writers block and a lot of people have experienced it and either mentioned it in their book or interview, and others had mentioned it in their song or other ways. Like I said it is annoying and can bug you, but after reading this I hope you know some ways to cure it.   


   


   

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood by Finn Clark

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

    Are stealth action games a favorite?  Well, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is a game you might want to buy!  Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is  by the Ubisoft Company, and the game is for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and for PC.  

This game, although it can be frustrating at times, is very fun to play. You are a character who is in present day but is revisiting his memories as his ancestor, Ezio who was an assassin.  The point of the game is to find and assassinate Cesare Borgia who is trying to take over Rome. In a series of missions, you build up more assassins to help you in the war of the Borgia. You help your friends you made in the first game, and meet Leonardo Da Vinci who has made these awesome devices to help the Borgia and you have to destroy them.

They did a very nice job putting in the third person but the jumping kind of glitches when you jump and land on a ledge.  It’s like the camera faces you when you jump, then can’t make up its mind and switches from front to back at least 3 times.  The genre of the game is action and rated M for Mature for sexual content, blood, intense violence, and strong language.

The online multi player for Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is the first of its kind and I think that Ubisoft did a nice job with the multi player graphics as they did in the campaign.  The most suspenseful thing about Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is that you are assigned to a person you have to find and kill, but that there is the fact that someone else is coming after you and you have no idea.  You wouldn’t really understand the plot of the game unless you played the first Assassin’s Creed, like when I bought the third game, I was very confused on what to do, but then by the next day I was already half way through the game.

This game for me was very addicting and I couldn’t stop playing it, it was so well made. I would definitely recommend this game to all people who like stealth and action games, which is I would guess is every Call of Duty gamer.

   

Pirates of the Caribbean By Finn Clark

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Have Pirates of the Caribbean ever interested you?  Well the director had decided to come back for more!  In the new movie of Pirates of the Caribbean Johnny Depp is taken captive by the infamous Black Beard to find the fountain of Youth.  The film was in theaters everywhere on May 20th 2011.  This action motion picture was surprisingly not as bad as people say, it’s just that story line went a little off track since the last movie.

The pacing of the movie was very fast and maybe that is what got people so off track about twenty five minutes into it.  the movie for me went from the governors house to fighting himself to being taken captive by the Black Beard. This movie could be funny at times but it could also be serious. The things that made me crack up at times is like Johnny Depp just makes a random joke or does something crazy like jumping off of a cliff.

The suspense in the movie wasn’t great at all. The movie was pretty much action, running, and gunfire.  The acting in the movie was very good and the actors was very nice choosing.  Johnny Depp had come back from very many funny movies he’d been in, to finish the Pirates of the Caribbean series of movies, but there might be another one.  The special effects of this movie were absolutely amazing. There was obviously a green screen for the setting but the setting of the green screen just took my breath away. They probably used so much wire for all the stunts. Many times had Johnny Depp have to jump from something or have a fight over the fountain of youth or his so important ship the Black Pearl.

This movie overall was very funny and confusing, but it takes awhile to just get to the point.  I wouldn’t like to recommend this movie to people who can’t sit through long movies that make no sense.

Playstation 3 Vs Xbox 360

    There are two very big companies going head to head right now, and those companies are the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, but I am still wondering, which will I choose?  What I’m looking for are some good gaming options, online multi-player, and the how much everything costs.  I order to find a good comparison chart for the two companies is google search comparison chart for “Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 comparison chart”Scroll all the way down until it says “techblog.dallasnews.com”, it will also show the Nintendo Wii, but just ignore that. But I still wonder, which is best?
 

the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 are the same price, but the PlayStation 3 has online multi-player, wifi, but not a wireless upgrade      ( because it doesn’t need it). The Xbox does not wifi but it is an extra $100 to buy it, and the online multiplayer is $50 a year if you want to buy the gold membership card, but its $12 for three months, the wireless upgrade is and extra $100. So the total price for the PlayStation 3 is $300 and for Xbox is $450 for everything.

The Xbox 360 does not have web browser or a wallpaper setup while the PlayStation 3 has both. Xbox also does not have a motion sensor controller and the PlayStation has the dual shock 3 sensor. Which means that you can use it as a wireless controller like a Wii remote.

After looking at the comparison chart  and going over all the facts, I choose the PlayStation 3. The things I would be missing is the PlayStation 3 has only one USB port when the Xbox has 3, and the Xbox has just a little better graphics than the PlayStation 3. The features that sealed the deal are the Blu-ray player, online multi-player, wifi, wireless Internet, and the better HDMI. By the way, I already have a PlayStation 3.

Moving to California and Making Friends

When I hear the word “friend”, Garrett A. comes to mind. He was the first friend I ever made when I moved to California. We met when I started playing soccer in Arcata for Mad River United. Garrett has long brown hair, hazel eyes, a fat lip that he still has, and was kind of chubby. His mom talked to my mom after we became friends and suggested going to Trinidad School.  

 I started Trinidad in the third grade and was shy, but Garrett had my back. The year after that I started making all kinds of friends, like Caden and Kirk and all different people, and Garrett was there the whole time. Over the years I started hanging out more with my friends, but not as much as I hung out with Garrett, I had a lot of fun. Now I’m in seventh grade and Garrett and all of my other friends left Trinidad School and went to Pacific Union.

I begged my parents if I could go to Pacific Union but they said maybe and they’ll ask my sister if she wants to go to Pacific Union too and she said no. A few days later they weren’t accepting any more out-of-district transfers. I was devastated. We still hang out all the time because I see Caden walking around Trinidad, Garrett and Jeremy at four thirty to pick up Jeremy’s sister, and Kirk because he is on my soccer team . I will hang out with some of my friends this year and graduate next year with the class I have been with since the third grade and go to Arcata High School.

Misfits Character Outline and Essay

    Joe Bunch shows caring by being with others when they are down and tries to comfort them.  Four kids in the small town of Paintbrush Falls where they go to middle school have been called names since kindergarten.  The book, Misfits by James Howe is about the four kids: Joe, Addie, Skeezie, and Bobby.  They have been called names for different reasons.  Joe for being gay, Addie for being so tall and smart, Skeezie for being so unclean, and Bobby for being chubby.  The gang of five, or so they call themselves, are trying to make Paintbrush Falls Middle School a name free place where nobody will be called names. Joe has some problems showing responsibility by having troubles and not trying to work them out. James Howe makes it so he has to work out his own problems by confronting them.

    Addie has some problems with showing respect to the teachers in Paintbrush Falls.  An example is in the book on page 36-38 where it says that she is arguing with Ms. Wyman about saying the pledge and also saying its a free country and she doesn’t have to do something if she doesn’t want to.  This shows that Addie doesn’t have respect for a teachers authority.

    Bobby shows caring by helping people with their problems and giving them advice like with Joe liking Colin, and by the end of the book Joe starts going out with Colin.  This shows that Bobby tries to help others with their problems and is nice to people.  Another example is that Bobby wrote a speech for the third party about no name calling day, where people think of the worst name they can call people and completely forget it so others won’t have their feelings hurt. It turns out after they lost for the third party, the principal had talked with Bobby about making no-name day, no-name week and that was what they did for the rest of Paintbrush Falls Middle School history.

    The way James Howe was able to make Joe confront his problems was sending letters to Colin, and Colin was sending them back to the right locker but Joe thought it was Kelsey who was sending them.  The way Joe confronts that problem is that Joe asks Colin if he wants to go out and maybe go to the dance together, and Colin says yes.

    Reading The Misfits made me change my perspective of bullying and name calling and I think kids can really make a difference to a school if they really wanted to.  It made me think that names can really hurt people. If they don’t do something about it, that it will stay with them forever. It will make them feel hurt inside and they think that that is really what people think of the person that is being called names.

Technology Assignment

The most websites I visit is mostly game websites, youtube, or Facebook. I haven't gotten on facebook lately, mostly because I just got a cell phone and I got all of my friends cell phone numbers and I can text them all the time I want because my cell phone has unlimited text but limited talk. So that means I can only call my parents after school to ask them something, or they call me. I think that in ten years most of the technology that we have today will be almost all touch screen, except for the cars which will be probably still be on the ground and putting bio-fuels into the world. In fifty years i would think that all of the technology will be either touch screen or motion sensed which will be really annoying since they can detect most of all movement. Like radios, cell phones, computers, and such. I also think that the Apple Company will expand most of its products and its profits to become very expensive and the products most bought in the world. I also have a game system that I can only use on the weekends. My parents rules. I also have a laptop that I use weekly and have to stop using at eight o' clock.
